Top Cloud Stock Arista Networks Anticipates A Return to Growth

 Ullal further explained that Arista management thinks a new multi-year growth cycle is underway. The cloud titans -- think Amazon and Microsoft -- will continue to be contributors to this story, though perhaps to a lesser degree than they were during the last decade now that the bulk of their massive data center infrastructure construction has been completed. But, in part because Arista has been continuously innovating and developing new tech, two new end-markets are emerging for the company: the campus cloud (smaller regional data centers for companies' internal use) and adjacent network routing; and network subscription software and services (which it has greater exposure to thanks to the acquisitions of Big Switch Networks and Awake Security earlier this year).  

As for the cloud titans, an eventual upgrade cycle on their part (driven by new entry level computer science jobs networking hardware) could be the key to sustained double-digit percentage expansion for Arista overall, but those upgrades haven't begun yet. But that's OK, because the largest cloud services providers -- once its primary customers -- now account for a far smaller percentage of Arista's sales than they did in the past. In Q3, Ullal said they provided 37% of revenue, but enterprise and financial firms were also at 37%, and smaller cloud service providers were at 26%.  

The campus cloud product portfolio specifically could provide some of the most dramatic upside for the company over the next few years. In its first year, the new segment hauled in $100 million in sales. Arista's top brass said it expects to double that annual rate by the end of 2021, and foresees it becoming a $500 million a year revenue generator further down the road. Given that the company booked $2.22 billion in sales over the last 12 months, that would be a significant addition to the overall business.

TIC 3.0 PM Touts Better Security Flexibility, Eyes More Use Cases

 The head of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA’s) TIC Program Office emphasized that the Trusted Internet Connections (TIC) 3.0 initiative aims to create more flexible and efficient ways for Federal agencies to improve security, and said his office is considering a wide range of additional use cases to help agencies implement the framework.

“The traditional networking compass is broken,” declared Sean Connelly, CISA’s TIC Program Manager and computer science vs engineering, today at MeriTalk’s virtual TIC Talks event.

That compass – which has tended to view data flows through the traditional lens of vertical and horizontal paths – now begs for agencies to adopt security frameworks that give them much greater visibility into their networks and threat vectors, along with increased flexibility to architect security according to their varied missions, he explained.

That improved visibility, Connelly said, will greatly improve situational awareness and help out agency security operations centers and CISA threat-hunting analysts to protect networks.

Against a threat landscape that continues to grow more perilous, and agency data flows that are expanding at warp speed, Connelly explained how TIC 3.0 accommodates agencies’ increased use of cloud services and better positions Feds to deal with modern attack scenarios, including “living off the land” exploits that have been long lasting and difficult to detect.

Four years after SOM first broke ground on Hopper Hall, the first dedicated cyber studies building for the U.S. Armed Forces, the latest addition to the United States Naval Academy (USNA) campus in Annapolis, Maryland, is now open.

Because the USNA campus contains an eclectic mix of architectural styles, from Beaux-Arts to modernism, SOM chose to keep Hopper Hall contextual in its massing and design. As such, the rectangular academic building rises only just slightly higher than the neighboring Nimitz Library, and the jobs with computer science degree precast facade is similar as well. The pattern continues inside, as intersecting white columns and beams create repeating “boxes.”

Hopper Hall sits on the campus’s perimeter along the Severn River, and as such, security concerns dictated both the programmatic and facade arrangement. At the base, the area most susceptible to both flooding and potential blasts, the facade is at its most solid, gradually peeling away as the building rises to reveal multistory windows. The hall’s aquatic labs (the Surface and Underwater Robotics Facility and the Shared Waterfront Activities Lab) are also located at the ground floor, while the building’s more sensitive areas (offices, data centers and labs, classrooms, and research facilities) are on higher floors.

Palo Alto Networks rolls out identity-based microsegmentation in Prisma Cloud

 Palo Alto Networks is releasing new features for its Prisma Cloud security platform. New features in this latest release will integrate technology from Palo Alto's 2019 acquisition of Aporeto, a machine identity-based microsegmentation company. Other new Prisma Cloud features include data loss prevention, and identity and access management security.

With Palo Alto's Prisma Cloud, organizations can securely connect office branches and mobile users to the cloud, allow for SaaS adoption with a cloud access security broker, and improve security across multi-cloud deployments. 

With the integration of Aporeto, Palo Alto is bringing identity-based microsegmentation into Prisma Cloud. The technology will provide visibility of network communications along with security policy control and management, the company said. 

Securing the cloud is a major focus for computer science vs computer engineering Alto, along with securing the enterprise and providing security with its AI-powered platform Cortex. Over the last two years, Palo Alto built up its cloud security capabilities with the acquisition of the cloud security startup RedLock, as well as the purchase of Evident.io and Aporeto. 

As for the rest of the feature updates, Palo Alto said the new DLP capabilities offer discovery, classification, and malware detection for AWS S3. The IAM features provide customers Cloud Infrastructure Entitlement Management (CIEM) capabilities, visibility into who has access to specific cloud resources, and the ability secure those resources with automated least-privileged identity access.

"Enterprises are adopting cloud native architectures, including containers and serverless, and embracing methodologies like DevOps to increase release velocity and achieve greater scale," said Doug Cahill, senior security analyst and group practice director for Enterprise Strategy Group. "This presents a requirement for security teams to integrate security across the full application lifecycle and deliver security through a platform-centric approach as markets converge. The innovation with Prisma Cloud 2.0 speaks to this approach."

New NASA mentor program links Boeing, Southern University

 NASA has signed its newest mentor-protégé agreement. The latest arrangement is between Boeing and Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Under the 18-month program, the historically black university will get new expertise on how to win federal contracts. And Boeing will get a pipeline of engineering students to help fill jobs at the nearby computer science major jobs Assembly Facility, where it’s helping to build NASA’s new Space Launch System. For more on how the partnership will work, Federal Drive with Tom Temin talked with Samuel Washington. He’s the director of Southern University’s Office of Governmental Contracting Services.

This agreement does a lot of things for the university. First of all, it provides training and business development for Southern as a protégé. And this training and business development done based on what they call a need assessment, which means that Boeing and Southern actually agreed on some of the things that the large corporations can provide to the university. This agreement also provides enhanced capacity for contracting opportunities, which is the main thrust of all of this. A lot of HBCUs, a lot of schools, they are acquainted with grants, but they’re not acquainted with contracts. They are large opportunities out there for schools being able to efficiently do contracts, and contract work. And we’ve done that for some time. This agreement actually helps us to enhance our capabilities, to make us more efficient. And the training, we have milestones over an 18 month period in which we will participate in the training. And all of this provides opportunities for our faculty, our staff, and students.

The Wireless Communications Industry and its Carbon Footprint

 With consumers becoming increasingly more mindful of their influence on the global environment, the call for more sustainable goods and services is greater than ever before.

In the United Kingdom, a company called Honest Mobile recently announced the debut of the UK's first carbon-neutral mobile network. Through emissions offsetting reforestation, the company said it can essentially provide carbon-neutral calls, texts and data. Honest Mobile stated that it will commit 1% of its revenue to reforestation. In the company’s app, customers can see how many trees Honest Mobile has planted on their behalf.

The wireless communications industry is not the first industry that comes to mind when people talk about emissions or increased sustainability, but actually, it does represent a significant share of global carbon emissions. According to research published by mobile phone maker Ericsson, the overall telecommunications industry accounts for about 1.4% of emissions worldwide. By comparison, the aviation industry generates 2% of all global carbon emissions.

In total, personal devices make up the biggest share of the telecommunications industry’s carbon footprint. About 50% of device-related emissions are associated with usage and the other 50% is associated with device life cycle. Networks and data centers account for the next biggest emission shares in the telecom industry.

Though people and their devices have comprised the majority of wireless communications, the growth of automation and the Internet of Things (IoT) will probably drive the rapid expansion of data networks. The amount of people using wireless networks is projected to develop at a linear rate, while difference between computer science and computer engineering use is expected to increase exponentially.

Mundo Pacífico selects IP Infusion and Whitestack for deploying HyperNET, the first disaggregated optical network in Latin America

IP Infusion, a leading provider of network disaggregation solutions for telecom and data communications operators, today announced that Mundo Pacifico, a Chile-based telecommunications provider, is increasing its network capacity for major cities in central Chile by deploying IP Infusion’s OcNOS® network operating system and HyperNET, a software-defined IP network based on Cassini (the Coherent Switch developed within the Telecom Infra Project).

HyperNET is based on Cassini, a disaggregated coherent switch and open packet transponder from Edgecore Networks, that provides high performance switching along with long-haul CFP2 coherent optics modules. Contrary to the traditional approaches, Cassini collapses the Optical to the IP layers in a single platform, making it very efficient for managing huge volumes of traffic.

Counselling moved online for lateral entry to engineering, MBA and MCA in TN

In a first, the counselling for lateral entry to Tamil Nadu’s undergraduate engineering programmes, and MBA and MCA courses will be conducted online.

According to reports, the announcement was made on Sunday by KP Anbalagan, the Minister for Higher Education that the decision was taken due to the COVID-19 crisis in the state. The counselling for lateral entry of students to BE/BTech courses - which is the direct entry of those who have completed polytechnic course into the second year of engineering programmes -was earlier scheduled to be held at the computer science vs computer programming Government College of Engineering and Technology, Karaikudi. Around 15,000 students enter into BE/BTech courses in Tamil Nadu every year through the lateral method.

Engineering, medical colleges may start session for first-year students by Nov!

Due to COVID19 pandemic, the new session of engineering and medical colleges may be started only in November while the session for IITs and NITs’ first-year students could be started by December.

This was expressed by government officials as stated in a media report.The report quoted government officials as saying that due to delay in conducting entrance examinations, the Union health ministry is getting ready to prepare a new schedule for admission into MBBS and BDS courses in the medical colleges in the country.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), state universities and IITs are reportedly preparing fresh schedule for the new batches of students to be enrolled in the first year.

According to the new schedule, the National Testing Agency (NTA) under the Union human resource development (HRD) ministry will conduct the JEE Main examination from September 1-6 while the results will be declared by September 10 or 11.

After the declaration of the results, the process of counselling for new admission to how hard is computer science and seat allotment in the engineering colleges will begin.

The report quoted a National Testing Agency official as saying: “Online seat allocation is being planned to start from mid-September to October. For vacant seats, spot rounds of seat allocation will be held in November.” Besides, the National Entrance-cum-Eligibility Test (NEET) for admission in the medical colleges has been rescheduled for September 13.

The report quoted a Union health ministry official as saying: “The results for this test may take 15 to 20 days or even more. So we are expecting the online seat allocation to begin only after mid-October.”

Singapore Replaces US As India's Top market For Engineering Exports

Singapore replaced the United States as India's biggest overseas market for engineering parts in April, with exports rising 95 per cent to $553 million from a year earlier, a trade body said on Wednesday, as statistics are upended by coronavirus lockdowns. India's overall engineering exports, comprising industrial machinery and auto parts, constitute nearly a quarter of total goods exports, contracting in April and May due to the computer engineering jobs and weak global demand, traders said. "Singapore has replaced the US as the number one destination for Indian engineering exports," said Ravi Sehgal, chairman of the India'a Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC). Engineering exports to China were up 19 per cent year on year to $173 million, he said.

However, total engineering exports were down 63.9 per cent in April to $2.31 billion from $6.4 billion, the EEPC said. In April, for which latest data is available, engineering exports to the United States declined 75% to $222 million.
