Ethernet Alliance to Host Virtual Booth at BICSI Fall Conference & Exhibition

The Ethernet Alliance, a global consortium dedicated to the continued success and advancement of Ethernet technologies, today announced it will be hosting a virtual booth at the online BICSI Fall Conference & Exhibition, Sept. 29-Oct. 1, 2020. The Ethernet Alliance seeks to connect with the BICSI professional association’s information and communications technology (ICT) experts focused on building infrastructure and engage them in its activities in areas such as operational technology (OT) networks and Power over Ethernet (PoE).

BICSI is a global resource for ICT credentials, standards, knowledge transfer and career development. software engineering vs computer science serves more than 26,000 memberships and credentials, and its membership spans nearly 100 countries. The annual BICSI Fall Conference & Exhibition serves as a forum for sharing industry best practices and technical presentations on topics including PoE, 5G, data centers, smart cities, the Internet of Things (IoT), audiovisual, wireless and direct-attached storage (DAS), optical fiber and passive optical networks.

“One of the absolute hallmarks of Ethernet is that the technology works together ubiquitously throughout every area of its growing range of applications,” said Peter Jones, chair, Ethernet Alliance. “That’s why it’s important for the Ethernet Alliance to regularly engage with diverse communities of professionals involved in Ethernet deployment around the world—to both better understand what they are experiencing as users and to attempt to provide context on what might be coming toward them and becoming important in their worlds. The BICSI Fall Conference & Exhibition is a perfect opportunity for us to do just that.”

In August 2020, the Ethernet Alliance launched an industry focus around operational technology (OT) networks, which control manufacturing processes or provide occupant comfort and safety in a building. Those networks historically have been siloed from Ethernet-based IT networks. However, standardization of Single-Pair Ethernet (SPE) paves the way for OT networks to become part of a seamless, Ethernet-based network, to the benefit of performance, security, flexibility and manageability.

PoE is another area where the Ethernet Alliance’s and BICSI’s scopes of interest intersect. The Ethernet Alliance in June 2020 launched its Gen 2 PoE Certification Program, in response to rising industry and end-user demand for seamlessly interoperating PoE products and solutions. The Ethernet Alliance program incorporates certification testing, certification logos and a public registry of certified products, with the goals of achieving broad interoperability among PoE-enabled devices, minimizing the market confusion resulting from the growing number of PoE definitions and providing clarity over standardized versus non-standardized approaches.

As its activities in areas such as OT networks and PoE have grown, the Ethernet Alliance has focused on tapping into new communities of expertise. For example, it recently signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate with the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), which represents more than 400 global companies enabling high-speed communications networks. The TIA Single Pair Ethernet Consortium (SPEC) is made up of global technology leaders accelerating the adoption of next-generation OT and IoT connectivity.

Quad countries deliberating on common approach on 5G technology

The US, India, Japan and Australia are exploring to evolve a common approach on 5G telecom technology, expanding their strategic cooperation under the framework of Quadrilateral coalition or "Quad" which was primarily focused on the Indo-Pacific region.

Officials of the four countries discussed the issue at a virtual meeting of the 'Quad' on Friday in the backdrop of growing reluctance by a significant number of countries in Europe and elsewhere to allow Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei Technologies to operate in their territories.

It is learnt that India is already in touch with Japan for the development of 5G technology, and the issue was deliberated upon extensively during the first foreign and defence ministerial dialogue between the two strategic partners in November last year.

"Noting the importance of digital connectivity and secure networks, the officials discussed ways to promote the use of trusted vendors, particularly for fifth generation computer science engineering networks," a statement by the US said on Friday after the meeting.

Verizon Communications vs. Coca-Cola

Both generally considered stable dividend stocks. However, Verizon's stock held up better throughout the COVID-19 crisis, slipping just 4% since the beginning of the year as Coca-Cola's stock tumbled about 13%. Let's see why the telecom giant outperformed the beverage maker, and whether or not the trend will continue over the next year.

Verizon faces near-term headwinds

Verizon's core wireless business, which generates most of its revenue, struggled with sluggish sales of smartphones and fierce competition from rival carriers last year. That's why its revenue grew just 1% in fiscal 2019, and its adjusted EPS rose just 2%.

Verizon faced similar challenges in the first half of 2020, but the how much does a computer engineer make crisis exacerbated that pain by shutting down retailers and throttling the growth of its smaller Verizon Media advertising business, which mainly houses the remnants of AOL and Yahoo's internet assets.

As a result, Verizon's revenue fell 3% year-over-year in the first half of 2020, while its adjusted earnings remained unchanged. Verizon didn't provide any revenue guidance for the full year, but it expects its adjusted EPS to stay flat. Analysts expect its revenue and earnings to decline 3% and 1%, respectively.

Online membership platform Skillinker launched to pair freelance teams with businesses

Mark Breithaupt, founder of Skillinker, is pleased to announce the launch of the company's online membership site, which provides freelancers the networking capabilities to form teams and link them with businesses in need of a fully functional unit.

The Naperville, Illinois-based startup was founded in August by Breithaupt, a marketing freelancer himself, amidst the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

"I've had the idea for Skillinker for about 10 years," Breithaupt said. "I knew I needed to launch the platform I've had in mind for so long after hearing from many freelance friends and past colleagues that they had been furloughed or lost their jobs due to COVID-19 and needed somewhere to re-connect with other freelancers and source jobs. Ultimately, we would like to see these teams grow into full-fledged small businesses. So, we view Skillinker as an as online incubator of sorts."

Once registered on computer science vs computer programming, freelancers can begin connecting with other freelancers whose skillset aligns with, or complements, theirs. For example, a creative director could link with an art director, graphic designer, copy writer and project manager and launch a marketing agency. Or an interior designer could partner with an architect, structural engineer and contractor in order to renovate homes. The industry types and possibilities are endless.

How 5G will boost business TECHNOLOGY 16 Sep 2020

It’s no exaggeration to say that the widespread adoption of 5G next-generation mobile technology will change life and business as we know it.

Promising lightning fast data speeds allowing the download of huge amounts of data in a second, more reliable connections, no “lag” in video transmissions, and a new world of “inter-connectedness” where every (artificially intelligent) device can talk to each other, 5G has been dubbed ‘Everything on Mobile’.

According to Business Victoria, 5G is potentially up to 100 times faster than 4G networks. Another plus is increased network efficiency may also mean the battery life of your devices is extended by 10 times, it says.

As well as transforming IT systems, computer science vs computer engineering will continue to change the way we work, with seamless connectivity increasing flexible working opportunities and empowering new ways of working digitally, says Tyler Wise CPA,  director of Wise Accounting.

“Because 5G will also reduce hardware requirements, you will be able to move office without having to consider IT costs,” he says.

However, against these advantages, 5G will pose new security challenges for businesses. Therefore, businesses will need to spend money on cybersecurity, not just new, 5G-enabled technology, says Aaron Bugal, global solutions engineer at cybersecurity company Sophos.

Alfonso Mucci awarded Royal Society of Canada’s Miller Medal

The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) has today announced the award of the 2020 Willet G. Miller Medal for Ocean Sciences to Emeritus Professor Alfonso Mucci of McGill’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. The RSC applauded the oceanographer as “an internationally renowned geochemist who has made numerous contributions in geochemistry and biogeochemistry.”

“He has revolutionized the application of spectroscopy in understanding crystal growth mechanisms in solution, developed models of metal behaviour in marine sediments, documented and identified the causes of bottom-water hypoxia in the St. Lawrence Estuary, a likely trigger to the demise of the Eastern Canada fish stocks, as well as predicted the deep-sea sediment response to the uptake of anthropogenic CO2 by the oceans,” the RSC’s citation reads.

“This is well-deserved recognition for Professor Mucci,” said Martha Crago, Vice-Principal, Research and Innovation. “His work on the computer engineering salary of our oceans and their role as a long-term carbon sink has advanced our knowledge of the dangerous extent of climate change.”

The medal, among Canada’s most prestigious honours in ocean science, comes at a poignant moment in Mucci’s career, barely two weeks on from his retirement after 35 years at McGill.

“It’s a great honour and a capping achievement to a career. It’s also a bit humbling when you look at previous medal winners. There’s some big names in the field,” said Mucci, as he paid tribute to a list of Miller Medal predecessors, from plate tectonics pioneer John Tuzo Wilson, who received the honour in 1955, to more recent recipients, including McGill’s Anthony Williams-Jones (2011), and UQAM’s Anne de Vernal (2016), with whom Mucci has collaborated closely.

From weapons to workforce, digital centricity is the Air Force's new motto

The Air Force wants to jettison its analog ways and go digital in everything from talent management to aircraft manufacturing and design.

Matthew Donovan, the Air Force's undersecretary for personnel and readiness, said revamping talent management to focus on adapting to "digital native" airmen is the crux of the service's digital modernization plan.

The Air Force needs to "appeal to expectations" of the youngest airmen to establish military service as an equally viable career path as corporate America, Donovan said at the Air Force Association's virtual Air, Space, Cyber conference computer science degree jobs.

That means increasing "career flexibility" so personnel can rotate in and out of Air Force components and the private sector (and alternate between active and reserve duty), Donovan said. Making sabbaticals, which could be used for family or elder care, education and training, "the norm" so that service members can come back to active duty without penalty, should also be included.

Sky Harbor Airport Runway Project Completed

The process started all the way back in 2006 when the licensure for the airport was in jeopardy because of the old growth forest was influencing the flight approach to the runway.

It’s been a long 14 years in the making, but the Sky Harbor Airport runway realignment and environmental mitigation project has finally taken off.

“It’s been a long journey through many partnerships,” said Brandon how to become a computer engineer, the project manager and airport engineer for the Sky Harbor Project. “This project has been one of the more unique projects that I’ve worked on.”

The project itself focused on rotating the 2,600-foot runway to protect the forest. From one standpoint, the weather was pretty challenging and most of the construction was done in the fall. To have the runway completed in this way is a rewarding feat, according to managers of the project.

“It’s invaluable,” said Twedt. “Having a paved surface that’s smooth, that’s accommodating will bring in more opportunities for future developments and future use of this unique airport.”

The location of the airport is quite unique, being adjacent to a large body of water like Lake Superior and being less than 15 minutes away from Canal Park for those who want to recreate. Leadership says it shows how the community was involved in the entirety of the project.

An expert panel discusses the potential impact of 5G technology on the UK’s manufacturing sector

From the ongoing spat between the US and Huawei, to lunatic conspiracy theories that phone masts are somehow responsible for the current pandemic, 5G has been grabbing the headlines for all the wrong reasons in recent months.

But away from the politics and internet trolling, the technology’s march into the mainstream has continued unabated, and businesses across the economy are increasingly excited about its potential. This is particularly true of the world of manufacturing, where it is seen as a key enabler of the so-called fourth industrial revolution. The Engineer spoke to some of the UK’s leading experts in this field to find out more about the ways in which 5G promises to reshape the manufacturing landscape.

The potential of 5G to enhance manufacturing operations is a result of the capabilities of the technology. 5G offers increased bandwidth, increased connectivity in terms of numbers of devices, reduced latency with in-built security. This is also built on by the potential to have private network deployment in a manufacturing facility. By enabling larger numbers of devices to connect within a factory the potential of Industry 4.0 for a ‘computer science major jobs’ can finally be realised. Reduced latency will allow real time remote control of manufacturing systems while increased bandwidth will allow line side support through augmented reality devices. All of these should stimulate improved productivity and competitiveness.

Faster Acceleration Of Digital Technology?

Recently I was researching a new technological development I had heard about from a friend. It sounded like something that would make an interesting topic for an upcoming article, but my best-laid plans fell apart. I got sidetracked by a couple of splashy headlines designed to catch my attention. Like the Siren’s Song of Greek mythology, they could not have lured me off course any better. I couldn’t ignore them.

One headline said something about how the COVID-19 was pushing the population deeper into cyberspace. Another discussed the technological war on the pandemic. But the one that really hooked me said that is computer science engineering was accelerating the evolution of digital technologies.

Heck, I thought the pace of technological advancement was moving along extremely fast without any additional help. If something was increasing the speed of digital development, I wanted to know about it. A quick read of several of these attention-getting articles revealed the actual emphasis wasn’t about how fast new technologies were emerging or evolving.
