WAN connectivity ensures Dallas County vote centres are election-ready

Cradlepoint and Verizon teamed up to help the IT team at Dallas County Elections meet government requirements with secure network redundancy for election nights.

With the 2020 primaries approaching, the general election soon to follow, and a transition to a vote centre model underway, Dallas County’s Office of Information Technology sought a time-efficient solution to a deeply important challenge.

The state government requires every vote centre to have network connection redundancy so workers have constant access to information from electronic poll books and other devices. This is particularly difficult because of the wide range of buildings that host these polling places, and requires the county to bring its own network.

At nearly 500 vote centres, Dallas County deployed computer science or computer engineering Service with enterprise-class wireless edge routers. Multiple modems in each router enable redundant wireless wide area network (WAN) connectivity, including highly available nationwide Verizon Wireless coverage.
